Why, a hexvex of course!
No porn = more horny people = more births
No abortion = more births
The logic driving US legislation everyone, it’s not so much “protect the children” thinking as “make the children have children” thinking.
Honestly, they’ve guaranteed that the US therapy industry is going to have patients for decades to come!

Thanks for the suggestion, I’ll have a play in the new year and see if it’ll work _
Feel free to replace it with the remote tool of your choice. Just keep in mind that it needs to be easy to use from the supportee’s end (double click, read a code).
It’s going to sound really silly but here goes:
Ensure their background is the same as it was (seriously, they often use it as an extra way to find things).
Where possible, use windows icons for desktop shortcuts and mask link names to match vocab they’re familiar with.
Have rustdesk set up with a link saying “Let <your name> help me”.
Make sure they have their password written down somewhere.
Make sure you have their password written down somewhere.
Where possible have background updating, where not possible have a .sh file to do it for them.
Add desktop links for things like downloads, documents and pictures.
These are tips for any distro when moving less tech savvy relatives over. For those that like to game, ensure your fs on their gaming drive is a Linux one as it stops weird behaviour. Also, you know, install the games for them!
And here we see an expert hacker at work, with just a few commands as a root user, they managed to gain root access.
You just captured the daily life of a UK academic after the catastrophically low recruitment numbers this year.
Really neat post, I’d not heard of a few of these (never knew libre office draw could edit pdfs!).
Couple of extra ones:
Note taking and pdf annotation: Xournal++ is amazing, it’s also great to use on larger whiteboard screens. Plug and play support for scribe tablets on both windows and Linux.
Emulation (up to ps1): Mednafen is lightweight and comes with a gui. It also supports recording, though not netplay.
Ebook management/reading: Calibre - allows easy importing and exporting of ebooks to devices, also has a great built in search letting you find DRM free versions of a book.
Exactly - if you don’t want to date a trans person don’t. If someone conceals it, that’s not an issue with them being trans, that’s an issue with them being dishonest. It’s ok to dislike dishonest people.
The use of the word cis has its roots in an obscure Usenet group; it’s genesis (apparently) rooted in a desire for more inclusive language for trans folks (the notion that “gender” Vs “transgender” was too othering).
It hit Tumblr like a train in the 2010s, and became a symbolic phrase in trans counterculture. “Cisgender” was less than popular with non-trans people, as it robbed them of the illusion of normality and turned the word “gender” into a social trap.
It later found derogatory use in the phrase “cissy” (a counter for the popular derogatory term “tranny”).
It’s a fun word with an interesting history, and it has helped contribute to the wider acceptance of trans folks.

Relevant follow-up (videos explore Korean gender politics and hierarchical society).
I mean, I also feel sympathy for you.
There is a lot of hate there, and someone/something must have really hurt you to make you feel that someone deserves cancer because they’ve had money in their life.
I hope whatever you’re going through gets better, that whatever has happened in the past becomes more distant, and that today is a lucky day for you.
Our royalty are really just diplomats with better PR and a lot less privacy. Poor guy just lost his mum, now he’s got cancer - I hope he recovers.
I think a lot of equity arguments bug me because they often fail to address the real issue (at least in the workplace). It’s a matter of attitude, rather than parity/proportionality.
However much we hate it, the majority of people in a stem field will still seek a straight white man out when we look for authority/expertise. That isn’t because they are the greatest expert, or that they hold the highest accessible authority, but because it is an ingrained belief. That’s just wrong, on so very many levels, that I cannot even begin to express how stupid it is.
Some people have spotted this issue, but their solution is abhorrent - denigrate this group. Raise a generation that looks on this group with contempt, to at least remove the component of authority. It will solve the problem, but it will create a lot more down the line as it becomes the accepted solution. Shall we have a generational genetic lottery forever?
Oddly enough, I think the “blurring of gender lines” brought about by the trans movement might offer a more meaningful solution to some part of this problem, as it erases the categories themselves, rather than attempting to shift their position.
Will give it a try!
Thanks for the recommend.

I can smell that photograph. Anyone got some oust handy?
The key concept they’re missing a lot of the time is that software sits within the file system and not the other way around.
This is largely because apps hide this and data is generally stored in one place on your phone (the downloads folder).
Best way to fix it - have 1–2 lessons entirely devoted to finding shit on their computer. My favourite activity is “ok, save your word file, close word, you now have 10 mins to find that file without opening word”.
