Ultimately, on the fediverse we are no longer customers (or the product), we are guests on someone on someone else’s server. Whoever is paying the server bills can decide they just don’t want to do it anymore, for any reason.
I’m on a democratically-managed /owned mastodon instance, I pay my “taxes” on open collective, and I can vote for my mod team. imo users should be asking about who owns their instances.
@trachemys @cnnrduncan yea - this has already happened over and over in the rest of the fediverse. There are instances dedicated to bothering people for fun.
