  • Which phone was it? Sony has products in the low, mid and high price range and the cheaper phones naturally are weaker than an iPhone. If you compare the flagship models of the two brands the Xperia is at least on the same level of power as the iPhone.

And as an anecdote: I had an iPhone a few years ago and hated it most of the time (and I say this while using a three year old phone that cost me 200€ at the time)

  • If those people are marginalised why not make organisations that help them get into programming?

When you think about stereotypical programmers, you usually picture a white guy somewhere between 30 and 50 years of age (at least in Europe and I presume the USA). Coding used to be a profession that was predominantly made up of women but when it became clear that it would become an important job more and more men became interested in IT so that now there are about eight male programmers out of ten.

Black people have similar issues (and god forbid you are a black woman) in that they often are paid worse for the same jobs than white people and have worse chances to get good secondary education and academic jobs even if they have the same intelligence as white people. Helping people to get into computer sciences that statistically have way lower chances to do so without any fault of their own is a good thing in my opinion.

  • The only reasons I still use Spotify is because I get it from a family subscription that my mother pays, so it doesn’t cost me anything. And it would be a big pain in the ass to get all my playlists on a local drive, changing to another streaming service would make it easier but then why change anything from how it is right now?

  • That’s the guy that took the “lunch atop a skyscraper” photo, right?

My dad has that photo, except without the steel beams, that the Salzgitter AG several of his ancestors worked in gifted his father (or grandfather, I am not quite sure).

"Lunch atop a skyscraper" black and white photograph of eleven construction site workers sitting on a steel beam over the skyline of manhattan, 1932

Like this photo but without the steel beams they are sitting on and a caption that says something to the effect of “what would they do without us?” I tried to find it on the internet but sadly couldn’t find it. Is it just me or do the seearch operators not work anymore with ddg?

  • It is one way to do so, german youth also use several english terms or “Digga” which is a modified form of the word “Dicker” meaning fat. Although I am no linguist I would assume that Alter and Dicker were used in combination with Freund (friend) first since those are valid phrases that still are in use.
