I think for me, the only female I remember in a video game was the princess in the arcade version (because consoles didn’t exist yet) of Donkey Kong. And she seemed kinda cute, for a blob of coloured pixels.
Much later, I do remember being quite entranced by Lara Croft’s walk in Tomb Raider… I think that was the first time I thought a computer generated female looked attractive. Honestly, the image quality was still horrible but they nailed that walk.

I scrolled pretty far and didn’t see a single mention of Marle from Chrono Trigger (or I’m blind). Needles to say, she was mine. I’ve always had a thing for redheads 😊
When I was playing chrono trigger the first time, I associated all the characters with friends. About 15 years later I married the woman I associated with Marle/Nadia, so I think my subconscious was telling me something.
I always thought she was blonde.
It’s close, but the hue is just red enough for my book. I won’t argue with anyone calling it blonde though. The official box art (both JP and NTSC) shows her slightly more orange than the sprite too.
Firiona Vie, is one that jumps out. Maybe not the first, but the one I can remember.

This screenshot just clawed a memory from the depths of my brain. I don’t even remember playing this game as a kid, but I vividly remember this character and art style.
It was made by Don Bluth. You might have seen his other game Space Ace, and you’ve definitely seen some of his movies, like An American Tale (Fievel), All Dogs Go To Heaven, Secret of NIMH, or Rock-a-doodle.
