This is the most succinct, unbiased explanation I’ve seen for this change. Thank you for this! It’s good to know there’s an unintended security improvement in their otherwise brazen attempt to kill ad blockers on Chrome.
Fuck Google.
Sounds like something someone who hasn’t actually watched the show would say.
Most modern Trek is not worth watching, IMO, but Lower Decks is so much more than just another modern Trek show. It’s a perfect blend of old Trek nostalgia and modern comedy. Its writers are clearly huge Trek fans, as the show is very respectful of Trek tropes and often references fairly obscure lore.
In short: your opinion is wrong. /s
Try watching it with an open mind (as any person who truly appreciates the core of Star Trek philosophy would) and you’ll probably find that you really like it.
I wasn’t upset to begin with. Was it not obvious that I was making a semantics joke? I mean, sure, the post I was replying to could be perceived as racist, since it was itself a reply to someone calling out racism, but it was clearly directed at wealth horders, not white people.
Speak your mind without fear or judgment. Post your thoughts anonymously and be part of a community that values individual expression.
Oh wow, a place without judgement, where I can finally discuss my controversial thoughts!
a post that receives a set threshold flags is automatically blurred, more flags means it is then automatically removed
Unless those thoughts are controversial.
Seriously, what’s the point of this? Just to have a database of popular opinions? It certainly won’t result in any meaningful discussions, since anything that doesn’t jive with the hive mind gets culled.
You should have respect for human life. Regardless of whether he intentionally tried to help Trump, the actions taken against him are completely unjustified and would be considered a war crime if done against a prisoner of war.
So you think it’s okay for somebody to be tortured if they’re on the wrong side of the political aisle?
What has he done that you perceive as right wing? As far as I’ve seen, he’s always been anti-establishment and pro-transparency, two things I would not associate with right wing ideologies.
If any Star Trek series could pull it off, it’s Strange New Worlds. I’m hoping it goes the same route as Buffy’s Once More with Feeling, and uses it as a chance for some real character/relationship building.
I’m cautiously optimistic. 🤞
That’s actually a bit of a relief to learn. I didn’t want to believe it was simply because Lemmy was trying to copy Reddit, but I just didn’t know enough to see any other reason.
Because Reddit does it? 🤷♀️
FYI, you need two new lines (hit Enter twice) to actually get a new line in Lemmy.
Two new lines One new line.
Ha! Fair point. I guess the Internet is ultimately peanuts compared to the real world.
But as far as relative negative effect on its sphere of influence, I’d say they’re comparable.
Wow, that blog post is truly nauseating and infuriating to read, knowing the context.
Fuck Google. They’re the Nestlé of tech.
Three things in life are certain: death, taxes, and governmental abuse of powers granted in good faith.
Open-source, decentralized platforms like the Fediverse are some of the few things that keep my hope for a brighter future from dying a cold, lonely death.
Good stuff. Important for people who want to play the game but don’t want to give money to Bethesda and, by extension, their genocide-complicit parent company, Microsoft.
